Bedroom Remodels
Considerations for Your Project
Primary bedroom remodels can greatly add to your experience in your home or add appeal to future buyers. Whether you’re considering this project for your own comfort or for added home value & appeal, the following thoughts are certainly worth considering.
Layout & Flexibility
There often seem to be 2 differing approaches to primary bedroom remodels - maintaining flexibility in layout and, the other, committing to specific design-centric functions. In the latter the intention is to create a room that is, often, very personalized. This might mean that the room is designed with a bed in a specific place with floating or built-in bedside tables, wall sconces, built in dressers or shelving, and unique lighting. This creates an extremely impactful feel to the room that truly sets it apart from other bedrooms but often at the cost of flexibility.
If you’re prone to rearranging, then you may lean towards an approach that offers more flexibility and less permanence. You may lose the “wow” factor, but you can often make up for this with your choices in furniture and textiles as the room is a bit more of a blank slate.
Lighting
Regardless of the approach you take to your bedroom remodel, lighting should play an important role. Take the opportunity to think through how you can best illuminate the room during various times of the day. Perhaps early in the morning or late at night you want to have the perimeter of the room dimly lit while having the option for a brighter center light during the sunnier parts of the day.

Storage
As the appeal of minimalism grows homeowners are opting for more built-in storage solutions. Most often this comes in the form of updating a closet with more robust shelving. If the space allows, consider bumping your closet into the bedroom a bit more. The idea here, typically, is to remove dressers and other bedroom furniture and migrate clothing and accessories to the closet. This usually means that more space will be needed in the closet to accommodate for both the storage space and for your own movement within the closet.
Electrical
Lastly, don’t shy away from updating your electrical layout in the room. Adding more outlets can allow for a multitude of circumstances you had no way to account for when planning. Perhaps in the future you find yourself needing a bedroom humidifier or the desire to create a small reading nook. Increasing the number of outlets in your room can allow for additional accent lamps, chargers, TVs, modular fireplaces, or nearly anything else.
