Storage
As simple as bathrooms seem there is a lot we tend to store within their walls. As you think through your remodel, gather everything you tend to store in your bathroom and assess the amount of storage you’ll need. Much like a kitchen, you’ll also want to think through the accessibility of your storage. Think through lower storage needs like bandaids, bath toys, and other products for kids to keep them reachable.
Lighting
Your lighting will play an important part in making your remodel feel fresh and inspiring. If you have a good amount of natural light in the room, then your primary goal will be to help fill the darker areas of the room (like inside the shower area itself). If natural light is a bit harder to come by for your bathroom, then focus on filling the room with balanced light that makes the space feel open without creating harsher hotspots of light.
Additionally, you’ll want to think through the lighting around your vanity area. Make sure the solutions you choose will create natural lighting to aid with makeup application or shaving while standing in front of the mirror.
Lastly, consider using dimmers and multiple light sources for the times you don’t need or want light completely filling your space. This can be a wonderful consideration if you’re prone to relaxing in the bath or for times you need to use the room in the middle of the night without being in complete darkness or blinded awake by a fully lit room.

Ventilation
Many older bathrooms lack proper ventilation, if they have any ventilation at all. Adding ventilation can make the space feel more usable and can help reduce the risks of mold. If you think having multiple exhaust fans in the bathroom would be a benefit, then consider the extra cost of adding additional ductwork to accommodate the second vent.
Flooring & Traction
The last consideration we’ll mention here is your flooring. Your bathroom is (obviously) a room that will see more than a fair share of water. Bathroom rugs are always an option, but typically can’t cover your entire space. Tile is a popular choice, but think through options that can give your wet feet a slight bit of traction. If you want to add a bit more comfort to your room, you can also think through the options of heated flooring.
