LEAD CARPENTER GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Lead Carpenter position pairs extensive construction knowledge and skills with a strong leadership skillset. Lead Carpenters have the ability to interpret and understand project requirements and lead a team to execute them successfully. This position reports primarily to the Superintendent and Project Manager and provides effective leadership of carpenters, assistant carpenters, and laborers. Lead Carpenters regularly hold meetings and communicate with clients and subcontractors to ensure a project is progressing as intended. At times, Lead Carpenters may be required to fill Superintendents' duties when they are unavailable. Lead Carpenters MUST have a great attitude and be able to communicate effectively with all team members, subcontractors, and clients.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Carpentry
Perform carpentry labor and assign tasks to assistant carpenters and helpers as instructed by Superintendent or Project Manager. Verify completion of tasks to the satisfaction of client and company standards
Maintain a high standard of quality in a wide variety of carpentry-related tasks for themselves and their team of Carpenters, Asst. Carpenters, and Laborers
Ensure work being performed is done in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, without compromising quality.
Anticipate ongoing needed materials, supplies, and drawings at least 1-10 days in advance and communicate needs to the Superintendent
Document all necessary change orders or client requests. Limit Scope creep.
Lead the team to the goal of achieving a zero punch-list job
During rain periods, report to the job site to cover the exposed area of the house with a tarp/plastic cover; minimizing any possibility of water entering the home.
On rare occasions, must be available to come in after hours to address emergency plumbing, electrical, or water issues
Communication:
Communicate any variation from the daily plan (hours, materials, scope) to the Superintendent
Communicate regularly with the Superintendent and project manager to ensure the project is on time and on budget
Engage with our clients in a way that reflects highly upon yourself and the company. Ensure the Superintendant and Project Manager is aware of any requests or questions from the client
Actively lead and participate in weekly or bi-weekly production meetings with all team members.
Accountability:
Be present on time (5-15 minutes early) each day. Begin setting up the job site immediately.
Accurately enter timesheets, receipts, and job logs/photos in the project management software on a daily basis. This is critical for accurate job tracking. Ensure Team members do this also
Ensure the job is neat and clean on a daily basis.
Ensure equipment is stored in trailers or another secure location
Safety/Maintenance
Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
Maintain assigned and shared equipment in good working order. Repair when necessary or alert the supervisor if the equipment is missing or in need of repair beyond normal maintenance.
Alert Supervisor as soon as vehicle maintenance is required or issues arise. Perform basic maintenance on a bi-weekly basis (check fluids, tires, etc.)
Other Specific Duties
Assist a local property manager with “Turnovers”. About 2 weeks per year. These weeks require long hours and weekend work.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS NEEDED
High school diploma and minimum 5 years experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of remodeling and construction trades, practices, procedures, techniques, equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, safety, and applicable building codes and zoning ordinances.
Demonstrated carpentry experience.
Demonstrated strong communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others to achieve project goals
Time management skills
Basic mathematics skills
Ability to learn and operate project management software
Ability to operate MS office and/or Google Drive applications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to pass a pre-hire physical assessment based on the jobs physical requirements.
The Lead Carpenter position requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds, to stand for long periods of time, to work in outdoor environments, to lift, carry, pull and operate heavy objects and equipment
